bewdy
We three kings of Orient
are
One on a tractor, two in a car
One on a scooter
Tooting his
hooter
Following yonder star
Oh, oh
Star of wonder
Star of light
Star of bewdy, she'll be
right
Star of glory, that's the story
Following yonder star . ..

Farewell friend
Ode on the Death of a Favourite Cat Drowned in a Tub of Goldfishes
BY THOMAS GRAY
’Twas on a lofty vase’s side,
Where China’s gayest art had dyed
The azure flowers that blow;
Demurest of the tabby kind,
The pensive Selima, reclined,
Gazed on the lake below.
Her conscious tail her joy declared;
The fair round face, the snowy beard,
The velvet of her paws,
Her coat, that with the tortoise vies,
Her ears of jet, and emerald eyes,
She saw; and purred applause.
Still had she gazed; but ’midst the tide
Two angel forms were seen to glide,
The genii of the stream;
Their scaly armour’s Tyrian hue
Through richest purple to the view
Betrayed a golden gleam.
The hapless nymph with wonder saw;
A whisker first and then a claw,
With many an ardent wish,
She stretched in vain to reach the prize.
What female heart can gold despise?
What cat’s averse to fish?
Presumptuous maid! with looks intent
Again she stretch’d, again she bent,
Nor knew the gulf between.
(Malignant Fate sat by, and smiled)
The slippery verge her feet beguiled,
She tumbled headlong in.
Eight times emerging from the flood
She mewed to every watery god,
Some speedy aid to send.
No dolphin came, no Nereid stirred;
Nor cruel Tom, nor Susan heard;
A Favourite has no friend!
From hence, ye beauties, undeceived,
Know, one false step is ne’er retrieved,
And be with caution bold.
Not all that tempts your wandering eyes
And heedless hearts, is lawful prize;
Nor all that glisters, gold.
Goodbye Catty!

Stories For Boys (the Occupy edit)
As part of the one-year anniversary of Occupy Wall Street (Sept 17), Minuit teamed up with New York photojournalist Nina Berman to produce this clip. These shots were taken during the time Occupy was in Manhattan Sept - Nov 2011, as well as at Occupy Chicago, May 2012.

Three more lives wasted in Afghanistan - RIP
The Gunner's Lament
A Maori gunner lay dying
In a paddyfield north of Saigon,
And he said to his pakeha cobber,
"I reckon I've had it, man!
'And if I could fly like a bird
To my old granny's whare
A truck and a winch would never drag
Me back to the Army.
'A coat and a cap and a well-paid job
Looked better than shovelling metal,
And they told me that Te Rauparaha
Would have fought in the Vietnam battle.
'On my last leave the town swung round
Like a bucket full of eels.
The girls liked the uniform
And I liked the girls.
'Like a bullock to the abattoirs
In the name of liberty
They flew me with a hangover
Across the Tasman Sea,
'And what I found in Vietnam
Was mud and blood and fire,
With the Yanks and the Reds taking turns
At murdering the poor.
'And I saw the reason for it
In a Viet Cong's blazing eyes -
We fought for the crops of kumara
And they are fighting for the rice.
'So go tell my sweetheart
To get another boy
Who'll cuddle her and marry her
And laugh when the bugles blow,
'And tell my youngest brother
He can have my shotgun
To fire at the ducks on the big lagoon,
But not to aim it at a man,
'And tell my granny to wear black
And carry a willow leaf,
Because the kid she kept from the cold
Has eaten a dead man's loaf.
'And go and tell Keith Holyoake
Sitting in Wellington,
However long he scrubs his hands
He'll never get them clean.'

One more day til the biggest month of my working year kicks in... and by that I mean the last couple of super busy months efforts come to fruition.
Wonder how it'll go
Wonder if I'll survive
Wonder if anyone will care
Wonder if I'll get a transparent plane to travel in
and large boobs
for I am Wonder Woman
nope thats not how I envisenged this coming out

Completely knackered as a result
Great time had away from the office at such a busy time of year for me... Now as I prepare to go home the reality of what awaits is playing on my mind

i had a dream
That the wealthy in New Zealand rose up and demanded the govt stopped pampering them and giving them the best tax regime in the entire world (FACT) and started to demand equality for those at the bottom of our society.
They've prospered beyond their wildest dreams in the past 15+ years and have finally said enough.... "we don't want to live in a country that treats its underclass with such contempt" was the rallying cry.
I awoke in a cold sweat and fired off an email to Fran Sullivan demanding she write a column chastising the rich for being xenophobic trators
We must protect the very rich individuals and corporate entities right to buy that which we can't afford ourselves... and if the rich won't spearhead that call themselves its up to their lapdogs
peace was restored
I may never sleep again

Dread
Today I'll be reading about the experiences and reality that so many have endured and continue to face in and around Christchurch due to today being the anniversary of last years big shake.
As ever it's going to be tough to hold back the tears as I confronted by life in my hometown.
I'm proud that my work has helped raise funds and support some whom are there but also acutely aware I want to do more, to somehow fix the unfixable. To mend the hearts and minds of those who have suffered so much.
Somedays I wish I had a Faith as I can see how those that do can lean upon that as a means to cope.
Peace, unity and strength to those who've shown countless times what it is to be human in a place and time of chaos.
*silence*

moving house is very very stressful and an almost unsurmountable task
the allure of the cardboard fort is strong
perhaps if I called squatters rights and defended the place hard I won't have to move
on a serious note - looking for a decent afforadble rental in auckland currently - worst time ever

the final curtain
so going to be a awesome day today
early start for the acts I like then mooching round enjoying the crowd the various air conditioned bars I have access to and a unhealthy dose of sunshine on my all too white self
shame I couldn't find a buddy who wanted to come or could take time off to take this extra ticket I have... guess someone outside is in for a treat
This must be my 16th BDO... such a shame there is no lily pad for my mid afternoon sit in the sun enjoying a cold one surrounded by the beautiful loons that populate our land
cheers

oh what a day
when young I used to smoke pot and listen to music like this thinking it was all very arty and intelligent
now I just think it fun
wonder what I'll make of it in another 20 years

Dreams Of Herge
I wandered along to the Tintin movie this week with young micarl and that big apple dwelling yid mischefski... and I was pleasantly surprised by the movie.
Outside of some classic hollywood action sequences which weren't needed (the action was fine but there were aspects that were just ott) the film stacked up real well.
Loved the 3d action... well perhaps I am biased by the fact I now have a mint set of new specs which were somewhat cheaper than my last purcahse in that realm - by some margin (possibly helped by the fact mischefski paid).
I really want to see it again now
Plus I really want to include the 3Ds "Drams Of Herge" youtub clip here but someone hasn't uploaded a pre-recored version, there is only a live one which isn't the correct intro to the song for them that ain't heard it before... so in the absences of music... here be the man himself
billions of blue blistering barnicles
I wish I could have taken me mum to see this film seeing as it was she who cultivated my love for Herge's Tintin comics.
I reckon she'd have thought it ace... and would have dug to post movie drinking establisment we went to as well
*shakes fist*
